The Humane Society for Southwest Washington is dedicated to fostering a community where all creatures are treated with compassion and respect.

Founded in 1897, the Humane Society has a long tradition of caring for the animals of Southwest Washington and surrounding areas. By working in collaboration with local veterinarians and animal rescue groups, the Humane Society and its partners in animal welfare look forward to a future where all companion animals will live in a loving home.

Through the work of our full-time and part-time staff, along with the assistance of more than 500 compassionate volunteers, the Humane Society for Southwest Washington offers an array of humane programs, including pet adoptions, community education, pet behavior advice, spay/neuter assistance and low-cost pet adoptions for seniors.

Through the generous support of local individuals, groups, and corporations, we are able to care for the thousands of orphaned animals we receive each year.

STATISTICS

As a community supported animal sheltering facility, we believe that it is our responsibility to openly disclose our animal sheltering statistics so that the public can be informed of the total number of animals we shelter, the appropriate treatment they receive while in our care and the percentage that leave our facility to loving, forever homes.

The Humane Society for Southwest Washington is a proud member of the Animal shelter Alliance of Portland (ASAP) and reports statistics according to the nationally recognized Asilomar Accords reporting method. These statistics help us accurately chart progress in saving animals in our community.

Washington County Animal Services, Multnomah County Animal Services, the Oregon Humane Society, the Cat Adoption Team and Clackamas County Dog Control are all active members of ASAP.
