2011 DINNER & AUCTION RAISES IMPRESSIVE SUPPORT FOR THE HUMANE SOCIETY FOR SOUTHWEST WASHINGTON

The Humane Society for Southwest Washington announces that its 2011 Dinner & Auction, It’s a Wonderful Life, has raised more than $500,000. The annual event is the humane society’s largest fundraiser of the year and proceeds will go toward supporting animal care needs, shelter operations, and community education and outreach programs offered by the Humane Society.

More than 700 people attended the Saturday evening event at the Hilton Vancouver Washington, which included a silent and live auction. “The Dinner and Auction was not only a huge success in terms of fundraising,” says Chuck Tourtillott, Executive Director, “it was also a shining moment for the southwest Washington community and beyond. They opened their hearts with compassion and dedication on behalf of the animals in our community that are in desperate need of our help.”

The success of the annual Dinner & Auction is dependent upon widespread community support.  More than 40 sponsors, both individuals and businesses, contributed over $100,000 to underwrite the event. A team of over 150 volunteers and staff worked tirelessly to help make the event a success.

This year’s Dinner & Auction was especially rewarding in that the Humane Society for Southwest Washington recently was awarded a coveted 4-star rating for sound fiscal management and commitment to accountability and transparency by Charity Navigator, America’s premier charity evaluator. The event also focused heavily on partnering with other community groups such as Clark College, the Vancouver Volcanoes, and local community service teams.

The Humane Society for Southwest Washington is located at 1100 NE 192nd Avenue in Vancouver.  Over the past five years, more than 50,000 homeless and abused animals have received care at the shelter, thanks in most part to the funds raised through events like the annual Dinner & Auction.  Continued fundraising helps support programs focused on ending animal homelessness and addressing the immediate and long-term needs of the southwest Washington community.
