An Urgent Rescue for Bean Sprout

November 28, 2023

When Bean Sprout came to HSSW, he was in desperate need of care. At 25 pounds, he was dangerously overweight, his fur was matted, and he had a serious upper respiratory infection. He was sneezing, breathing abnormally, and refusing food. Bean Sprout needed help urgently.

For pets like Bean Sprout, your kindness is truly lifesaving. And thanks to several generous friends of HSSW, your gift for Giving Tuesday can go twice as far for the animals. Your donation will be matched dollar for dollar up to $3,500.

Bean Sprout received immediate care from our team. Despite his discomfort, he was tolerant and sweet as our staff worked to remove his painfully-matted fur. He was started on medication to resolve his severe congestion, but he continued to refused food. And while he desperately needed to lose weight, not eating altogether was concerning and dangerous for his health.

With continued treatment and the careful support of our staff, Bean Sprout’s upper respiratory infection was improving. And now that he was feeling better, his appetite had returned. He was soon moved to a colony room in our cattery where he would have more space, and started on a “biggest loser” diet and exercise routine to help him reach a healthier weight.

Today, Bean Sprout’s journey continues as an adoptable cat at HSSW. And while he waits to find a new loving home, he is supported and loved by our team of dedicated volunteers and staff. He is friendly and social, loves laps, and gratefully accepts headbutts and check scratches.

Thanks to the support from donors like you, Bean Sprout received the lifesaving care he needed. Your generosity makes a difference for him and the hundreds of pets in our care every day. And when you donate today for Giving Tuesday, you can ensure we will always be here for pets who need us.
