When we met Fuchsia, it was clear her life had not been easy. Her ears were cropped very close when she was young, resulting in severe, chronic ear infections. Over time, her ear canals became so scarred that our veterinarians could not see her ear drums. Her ears were a source of relentless pain, and it was clear Fuchsia was suffering.

Our veterinarian consulted with Dr. Spencer at our partner Columbia River Veterinary Specialists. Dr. Spencer recommended a surgical procedure in which the ear canal would be removed. And while this would have the unfortunate side effect of making Fuchsia permanently deaf, her hearing was already compromised, and her chronic ear infections were a constant source of pain. Fuchsia’s care team decided to move forward with the surgery, and she was placed with an experienced foster while she awaited treatment.

Fuchsia did well immediately after surgery, but her recovery was not without difficulties – she had nerve damage and showed signs of vertigo, including a head tilt and wobbly walk. But Fuchsia was resilient. With the support of our veterinary team and her caring foster, Fuchsia gradually began to recover.

Her complicated medical history and need for ongoing veterinary care would make adoption challenging for Fuchsia. But her search for a loving home was shorter than expected – her foster had fallen in love with her and made Fuchsia a permanent member of her family.

Today, Fuchsia is thriving. She receives specialty care to treat her medical needs, she goes on hikes and adventures to the coast, she goes to the dog park and naps on the couch with her best friend Nama. Fuchsia has the care and support she needs, and the loving home she deserves.
