For years, HSSW Community Solutions has provided essential support to pets and people throughout Southwest Washington. These vital programs provide free pet food, low-cost spay/neuter, wellness clinics, and so much more to families facing economic challenges -- all with the goal of keeping pets at home with the families they love. Generous support from donors like you makes this important work possible. 

Here is one special story of how our Community Solutions programs were able to keep a beloved pet with her person.

When we met Susan, she was living in her car with her cat Spartacus. The car windows didn’t go up, and the seats didn’t go all the way back. And for Susan, Spartacus was a lifeline - caring for her gave Susan a purpose. Susan had lost everything, but Spartacus was the one thing that couldn’t be taken away from her.

Susan had been receiving pet food support from HSSW and formed a relationship with one of our volunteers. When Spartacus got sick, we were there to help. Spartacus received lifesaving medical care from a community vet though our HELP fund. Happily, Spartacus made a complete recovery and was soon back to her loving, affectionate self.

This holiday season, Susan and Spartacus are together, and their lives have changed immeasurably. Our team connected Susan with a transitional housing program and she and Spartacus now have a safe and secure place to call home. Not only that, Susan is giving back to the community though her own volunteer work.
